General Rules of Clinic

Clinic is broken into 4 age brackets (U4 - U7), where the "U" stands for under.  For example, the majority of players in U5 are 4 years old.  The main emphasis of Clinic is teaching skills and building confidence on and off of the soccer field.  Clinic is non-competitive.  With the exception of U8, there are no goalies used; therefore, scores are not kept.  The clinic motto is to create "World Class Players", not world class teams.

All games are played at Muth Fields (fields at St Jane School in Riviera Beach) and last approximately 40 minutes with a 5 minute break at the quarters, and a 10 minute break at the half.  The clock runs continuously during the quarter.  Referees will attempt to stop the game half way through the quarter to allow coaches to substitute.  Age brackets are broken down as follows:

Age Bracket No. On Field Team Size Soccer Ball Size Goalies? Quarter [min]
U4 3 vs. 3 6 - 7 #3 No 8
U5 4 vs. 4 8 #3 No 8
U6 5 vs. 5 10 #4 No 8
U7 7 vs. 7 11 - 13 #4 Yes 10

All children participating in the program need a CLINIC UNIFORM (reversible yellow/blue shirt).  Clinic jerseys are sold at the first clinic game of the season. All children MUST WEAR SHIN-GUARDS during practices and games. This if for their safety, and is required!  All children should have their own ball and water bottle for practices; cleats are optional, but recommended.  Please check the Uniform Page if you have questions.

Detailed Rules are found in Policy 9413: Intramural Program Criteria (requires Adobe Acrobat)

Other Information

Please keep in mind requests for players to be placed with specific players or specific coaches may be addressed but in NO WAY GUARANTEED. Returning players are not assured of returning to the previous coach. The effort is made to balance the teams based on experience and gender.  Teams will be formed when registration has completed.  Practices typically run any day Monday through Friday based on your team's coachGenerally, teams practice 1 night per week starting approximately 6:00 pm for 1 hour.  Please check here for practice times and locations

Parents are required to sign a Parental Code of Conduct (you did this when you signed up your child on-line). This is being done in an effort to promote positive fan support and sportsmanship. Please read, sign and obey the code. It makes for a better season for all.  Please remember this! Everyone who helps at St Jane Soccer are volunteers -- Coaches, Referees, and Players.  Please be nice to our volunteers.  If you feel that your coach is not doing an adequate coaching job, please ask the coach how you may help.  99% of the issues that surface on a soccer field are related to lack of communication.  If you are bothered by something, please bring it to the surface immediately.  Our goal in the clinic is to promote growth in your child not only in soccer, but as a young member of our community.  Our coach's typically only see your children two times per week (practice and game).  We can show your child the drills, it is up to the parents and children to enforce.

Roles and Responsibilities

In order for teams to function successfully, several roles need to be filled throughout the entire season.  On a typical team, the following roles should be filled:

Coach: A mom or dad that organizes the team's drills and games as related to soccer.  The coach generally has the final say on the team.

Assistant Coach: A mom or dad that helps the team at the coach's request.  All parents should attempt to help as assistant coaches if possible.  The assistant coach is can also act as a replacement for the coach in their absents.

Team Mom:  A mom or dad that takes on the role of organizing a snack list for half time and the end of the game.  Additionally, the team mom helps in getting phone calls to parents in case of bad weather, cancellations or rescheduled games.

Goalie Dad: A mom or dad that is in charge of pulling out and putting away the goals before and after the game.  If you are putting away the small-sided goals, please remember to only break them in half when storing in the shed at Muth.

Finally, Let's Have Fun and a Fantastic Season!!!
